First we notice that, there is a concurrence in opinions between Managers and Subordinates in Greece like in Italy. This is because:
Managers are former subordinates. They have friendly relations with subordinates and similar way of thinking.
Enterprises in Greece are small – micro family companies so the differences between Managers and Subordinates are not always visible.
There is a clear distinction between work and personal life.
That explains why enterprises do not own traditions of leisure time activities
And neither manager nor subordinates would like to have as they will be taken as part of the job.
Informal and formal discussions in the enterprises occurred, were been discussed both personal and business issues,
Subordinates opinions are asked and they feel free to propose but the final decision is taken buy the managers.
In small and micro companies it is usual for the managers to have friendly relationships with the subordinates and to discuss personal issues.
Orientation to work is crucial for Managers.
They recognize that if they orient their life to business their personal life will suffer and that they do not spend enough time with their friends and family or to improve their personal competences.
Subordinates feel the care from the enterprise
This come as a result to the informal discussions in the company
But they are not pride for well done tasks and Managers agree that they do not praise the subordinates.
Managers want to have the control of the tasks been done in the enterprise,
Believing that is the only way for a job to be done correctly.
Subordinates on the other hand feel that they are capable of solving organizational problems and some times they do so without briefing the Managers.
There is also a difference in opinions about the quality of the work. Managers state that the quality of work and the results are better when the procedures are under control and subordinates want more flexibility with the procedures.
Employees are evaluated based on their qualifications and not on the work results and they are willing to work in team more that managers believe. And even if employees evaluation is based on their qualifications and they do not pride for a task well done they value work more than personal needs, family and spend some of their leisure time in order to fulfill a task.
In Greece there is a clear orientation to formality.
The tasks of the employees are clear formulated and position taken in the company plays an important role in decision making but the information flow is not formulated formally.
This does not means that they do not cooperate with employees from other departments in order to solve problems or that they are not willing to undertake task not in their job description
